Yesterday I went dorm-shopping in Leuven for the next academic year —it went great, I got to reserve a very nice room I must say— after which my girlfriend, who kindly joined me on my quest, proposed to go eat some ice cream on a boat.
From the outside, ice cream shop Coupe Matadi looks just like your average barge (the kind you see often in Belgium), apart from the happily eating people on the deck. But climb aboard, enter the ship and you will find yourself in a warmly designed interior. And guess what: the interior was designed by the owners of the shop themselves, who are in fact part-time architects!
If designing their own interior is not enough, the ice cream they sell is also their own creation, recipes and all. As you might guess by the title, I was very pleased, especially because I got to eat three balls of ice, one raspberry, one pineapple and one Caffé Méditeranée (mocha) on a hot day like yesterday. Oh, and their ice is also purely biological, with no artificial additives whatsoever.
An absolute recommend for my fellow students in Leuven. Coupe Matadi is located near the Vaart (see added location).
